A 2-minute read for curious mums 💙
If you’re a mum of a child on the autism spectrum, you’re probably always on the lookout for ways to support your little one’s wellbeing. You may have heard about chiropractic care in this space — and wondered what it’s all about. Here’s what we know.
What does chiropractic have to do with autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, behaviour, and sensory processing. While chiropractic care does not treat or cure autism, some research and clinical observations suggest that addressing nervous system function through spinal care may support overall wellbeing in children on the spectrum.
The nervous system is the body’s master control system — it governs how we process sensory input, regulate our emotions, and respond to the world around us. When there is interference in the spine (known as subluxation), it can affect how the nervous system functions. Chiropractors work to identify and correct these areas of interference.
What does the research say?
A number of case studies and emerging research suggest that some children on the spectrum who receive chiropractic care may experience improvements in areas such as sleep, sensory sensitivities, behaviour, and overall comfort. It’s important to note that this research is still developing, and chiropractic is considered a complementary support — not a standalone treatment for ASD.
Why are we talking about this?
We’re hosting an upcoming workshop — The Spectrum Revealed on 11 March at 6 pm — where we’ll be diving deeper into this topic. We’d love for you to join us to learn more, ask questions, and connect with other families. Contact us on 8931 3003 for more details!
As always, we’re here to support the whole family — and that includes your child, wherever they are on their journey. 💙
